SEPTEMBER 25-27, KUNMING, CHINA

THE AZ GLOBAL INTERNATIONAL ALUMINUM CONFERENCE

About the Conference

AZ Global Consulting Limited is pleased to bring you our 2024 International Aluminum Conference. This will be our 12th International Conference.

Our conference will be held in Kunming, September 25-27.

Our theme this year is “Global Challenges, Individual solutions.” In the 5 years since we were last in Kunming, much has changed in terms of the industry’s recognition of the challenges coming from climate change. As an industry, we need to reduce our impact on the environment. Whether it be from CO2, methane, spent pot linings, bauxite residue or other pollutants, we have a lot of work to do.

The thing is, inside the industry, we have known this for several years. But outside our industry, we are being challenged to lift our game. Not only that, we are sometimes attacked through disinformation or misinformation.

We not only have to do a better job of improving our performance, we need to fight the information war, and let the world know our good messages.

AZ Global conferences are well known for their excellent content, and this year will be no exception. We are working to bring you an outstanding lineup of speakers, who will address the most important issues facing us. We have heard in recent years that the path to success lies in cooperating and working together to invent new technologies, and this year we will celebrate the achievements to date, and hear about the breakthroughs that are still coming.

Kunming

Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, is home to China’s burgeoning green aluminum production. With the massive hydroelectric power stations that have been built recently, Yunnan province now boasts more than 6 million tonnes of primary aluminum capacity. Augmenting those new smelters, Yunnan province is now home to a wide range of downstream factories, converting that raw metal into rolled products, extrusions and cast items. Just about every factory in the area is new. Still, the area has its challenges. In the past two years, the province has been forced to order smelters to reduce their electricity consumption. Will that pattern continue? Has China built enough hydropower in the area to generate sufficient electricity for all industries and for domestic consumers? How much more green metal can be made in the area? How well equipped are these modern smelters for taking their CO2 emissions down to world-class levels? Kunming has long been known as one of China’s most liveable cities.
Known as the ‘Spring City’ for its equable climate, it remains a very pleasant place to kick back for a few days. For visitors who haven’t succumbed to the laid-back attitude of the place, there are plenty of temples and national parks nearby to keep you busy during the day and a fair few craft breweries and cool bars to hold your attention at night. Make sure you visit the Bamboo Temple, about 12 km northwest of Kunming. The temple was built in the 7th century. The statues on display there are amazing. As well, make a visit to the Golden Temple Scenic Area . It covers 118 hectares on the northwestern outskirts of the city. The obvious highlight is the namesake Qing dynasty shrine, the largest bronze temple in China.
